Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers say they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then discovered many other smeared cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report initial examinations suggest the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; authorities are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for information.
A senior political figure commented the attack made him speechless and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the death of nine people by a shooter targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
